It's recently come to my attention that the Visitor Message system was not working as intended. Specifically, visitor messages left on any persons profile page could be edited by that user. This has led to some cases where a person has literally "had words put in their mouth" by someone after posting a comment on their visitor messages, which they'd then report to a staff member to try and get that person infracted.
While it was originally intended that individual users should have the power to delete abusive messages, there's no way in the system for us to separate these edit and delete functions on the visitor messages. It's an all or nothing thing.
As such, from now on, if you do get an abusive message or something you'll have to ask for a member of staff to delete it for you. On the plus side...it means we can actually hand out more deserved infractions there, since there won't be any possible defence of "they edited my post to make it say that".
Please keep in mind that criticism is not in and of itself abuse or harassment. Requests to staff to remove visitor messages which simply disagree with you will not be accepted. Furthermore, any visitor messages which do not fall under the category of abuse or harassment will not be deleted.
