I don't think you should worry that much about the portrayal. The beauty of writing is that there are so many people writing the same characters but in different ways, and so are you. Calem being the player character with no canon personality (who pretty much doesn't speak at all or does very rarely) allows people to mold his personality and actions the way they like it, they can literally do whatever they want with that character. So no, you are not wrong.

Everyone has their own interpretation of Calem and there is no right or wrong way to do it. He has no canon personality so really, it's quite easy for him to be very different from story to story. Your interpretation is correct and so is that writer's.

    So don't worry.

I'm not surprised hers was that way. Most people want another blue or silver. My only problem with what your saying is that your complaining about her interpretation vs yours. People see and enjoy different things. Also how is she an egotist for saying she put work into a story. I understand that your feeling insecure about your writing but I'd advise not to compare your style to someone who has probably been writing longer. Enjoy your story and just write things the way you see them.

Well, they're your fanfics. You can portray them anyway you want. There's no wrong way to portray a character as long as you like them.

Even funnier is that in my fic, Calem has dark hair. I wonder if she realizes that dark-haired people can have blue eyes too.

As someone who also has German heritage I understand some of this post. Truthfully the only people who have called me a Nazi were my friends and then I would usually something to the effect of "HH" (if you know what I mean). It gets old after a while but still it's your heritage, so what if someone thinks your heritage makes you a bad person inside your not. Along with many others of German descent. As long as you know it those ignorant people can move on with their lives.

Also I do find it interesting that most Germans who are portrayed in no is or TV tend to be Jewish, like the people who played Colonel Klink and Sergeant Schultz on Hogans Hero's

Also most places I've been usually have at least an Octoberfest, even though it is mostly about drinking they usually have German heritage stuff going on.

Hello. I happened upon this blog post and felt the need to comment on it. As an American, I feel terrible that people have treated you this way. That your own history professor would do that to you is quite disturbing. I wish some people could see past the whole Nazi ordeal and come to see that there are kind Germans out there. And I am certain you are one of them. Please don't be ashamed of your heritage. :) I agree with Mijzelffan's post in that I couldn't care less about anyone's heritage. So long as you are a nice person, that's all that matters. :)

Also, regarding the German culture and names and things, ever heard of SoulCalibur? There's two characters in that game that are German. One is a Hildegard~ :)

Why does it even matter where your ancestors are from? Personally I couldn't care less about my own or anyone's heritage, and I know most people I know would agree with that. Must be some sort of American thing.

He wasn't originally as bishie as he is now; I wouldn't be so concerned, honestly, but if you're that worried, cosplay as GS Morty as opposed to HGSS Morty.

Don't worry about what others say or feel. Cosplaying it express one's creativity. So what if Morty is often portrayed as gay in "some" situations, I've seen a lot worse, and I think a Morty cosplay would look pretty cool. I find him quite cool, kinda mysterious, yet always the level-headed one. I'm trying to build my own cosplay costume myself, though it's from a different series, and I have a feeling most might mistaken my character for a different, more popular one.

Anyway, I say go with it. Who cares about that stuff, don't let it discourage you. Do what you want, don't let "critics" stop you. Just ignore that stuff and do what you want. It's your costume, so you can call the shots. Besides, I've seen a lot worse, and Morty is far from gay. Just because he's soft-spoken and level-headed doesn't make him gay. So go with what you want, and just brush off anyone else who thinks otherwise. Morty is a cool guy, one of the best Gym Leaders in Johto. That's how I feel.

The funny thing is, Anne Frank was into celebrities - she loved a lot of the movie stars of her time, such as Deanna Durbin (who passed away last week) and Norma Shearer. She kept many pictures of actors and actresses on her wall. I guess that's no different from a 13-year-old girl today decorating her walls with pictures of Justin Bieber or One Direction. But I still don't think Anne would have liked JB.

I do believe that in the days following there was a row over Twitter between Bieber fans and One Direction fans, one group claiming Anne Frank would be a "Belieber" and the other claiming she would have been a "Directioner". You can easily get these people riled up over anything. They're so loyal you could class them as dogs.

Why does everyone assume I'm a christian and start insulting Christianity when I say these things? lol

I am not a Christian or Muslim, fyi, in fact, I find religion in general to be unhelpful and regressive.

I don't know why I commented in this blog, I knew all I would do is offend people. I mean no offense, just my own opinion, everyone is entitled to their own. If you want to worship Allah, then you go right ahead. Don't listen to me, who am I to tell you how you should live your life?

The Qua'ran does indeed suggest violent methods in various passages, I don't think there's any vagueness to the translations.

The problem lies in the fact that it's ridiculous to fault an entire Religion for that reason when the violent passages were simply a result of the time it was written in where using power to gain territory and followers was necessary for survival in a primarily nomadic culture. And I believe that an earlier passage states “Fight for the sake of God those that fight against you, but do not attack them first. God does not love agressors” (2:194-5), which implies that the latter passages are more so implied to be utilized when retaliating. Muhammad also I believe prohibited the killing of women, children, and civilians.

The large majority of Muslims, like the large majority of Christians, ignore the violent passages and focus on all the positive passages that advocate peace and charity.

I think that I recently heard something that went like this:

"The majority of everyday Muslims view the radical terrorists in the same way that the majority of everyday Christians view the Westboro Baptist Church."

Something to think about. How would people in a nation that is mostly Christian like to be considered all on the same level as Westboro Baptist Church?

Have you looked at the Bible lately? You can find passages just as bad in there. At the same time, you would have a hard time finding any decent person who has actually stoned someone in their lifetime.

In the name of not starting a big debate/argument that really doesn't belong in the blogs, I'm only just going to say that not every crime committed in the name of other religions is branded as a "terrorist act." If every "hate crime" committed in the name of other religions by fringe radicals were to be classified as "terrorist acts," these numbers would be a lot different. Give that some thought.

Full disclosure: I am not very religious. I am not defending anyone who uses their religion as a reason to harm anyone, whether it be physically, mentally, or verbally. I don't care what religion someone follows as long as they respect everyone else in the world who is trying to just enjoy their lives.
