I'd say The Incredible Bulk had a better death scene: the main character and his fiance's father fight and fall off the balcony, all of this on a shitty greenscreen.

I know that, but usually people make us do sprites for their banners, or animated avatars, and sometimes even just for a challenge- but that is just one point. The spriters that remain don't even sprite that much nowadays.
Yeah, it was on last weekend in Hamilton. Jokes aside, I see that. Banners and avatars, however, are in demand by a much larger portion of the userbase. Everyone wants a nice signature banner and matching icon, while there's only a small number of members who have any use for sprites. I mean, I could request a custom sprite or two, but I would be hard pressed to find a use for them.
