This is very true. You don't really realize this until you know two languages but what is in a dictionary and what is in google translate is very different from how words are actually used by native speakers. Colloquialisms and slang make it really hard to for translation software to work properly. There's a reason that translator is high paying job in business and for governments.

Heh, I actually legit speak French (I'm not great with grammar but for the most part I'm conversationally fluent) but I couldnt resist using that phrase (which interestingly enough is actually a correctly used colloquialism. Kind of) for obvious reasons.

I'm a native speaker of Irish. Quite poor at it though :/

As a kid I wanted to learn Japanese because I loved anime, but found it too hard. In high school I took Spanish and I absolutely hated it (the teacher was a pain to work with, among other problems), and earlier this year I had a friend from Russia who wanted to teach me Russian, but she hasn't been online since March or so. I dunno, I've had trouble trying to find a language to learn, because there are so many.

Yep I am! My teacher is so clumsy, but that's what makes her cool. xD In Italian, you almost always need a definite article, unless you're talking about your relatives.
