You heard it, folks, the famed Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children has been leaked to the internet. It's being subbed as we speak.

Initial impressions indicate that the animation and battle scenes are beyond belief, but I haven't heard much said on the plot yet.

Leaked? Already? I could understand a camera in a cinema video being subbed, but we're actually talking about a leaked copy from inside the company?

Don't ask me. All I know is that it's out.

It seems to be some sort of DVD leak, no less.

The funny thing is the official release date of the DVD is supposed to be TOMORROW (9/13).

Yup, it's been leaked... and watched.

The battle scenes at first seemed like FF7 wankfests, but on second thought since we're dealing with 100-level characters anything less would feel wrong. The Turks get their own share of action. Definitely dead people stay dead, but show up anyway. (But Rufus lived. Not a spoiler, since you meet him within the first few minutes.) Great motorcycle combat. Much better aerial combat than Matrix Revolutions. Final Fantasy Theme played during end credits.

Unfortunately, Tifa felt like she got nerfed. Most other characters show up only briefly, but mostly Cloud's the only one doing damage.
Lots of references to the game. If you haven't played it, or at least read the entire plot (can be found on GameFAQs), you probably won't get it all. I didn't.
Cloud's weapon: swiss army buster sword. The kind of awesome and completely unrealistic weapon you can expect from Square.
No blood. Wounds that should bleed or even gush don't.

Great. Now will VI ever get the respect it deserves?

And now there's a fansub out...

Zhen Lin

Clearly, the west cares not for either Pokémon or Pocket Monsters, even if Japan still does, to some weaker degree...

Or perhaps that had something to do with Japanese subtitles being present already.

And what does Pokémon have to do with Advent Children? ...

Zhen Lin

The speed and effeciency of this kind of leak, and then fansub, are only possible when people are interested... extremely, deeply, fanatically interested, and with connections... speaking of connections, considering that it will be the 10th anniversary of Pokémon soon, I wonder if any of the older fans of the original have found insider positions at Game Freak, Creatures, OLM or even the Pokémon Company, Nintendo or TV Tokyo yet...

Misty

I also point out that Final Fantasy's audience is, in general, older than Pokemon's audience.

Kasumi

Well, I'd say Final Fantasy's fanbase is bigger than Pokémon's.

Misty

I don't know about that. FFX sales tallied up at 6 million or so worldwide, while Ruby and Sapphire totalled 12 million. That said, it's hard to keep up with these fanbases, espeicially considering when both games were released...

KoalaDevourer

I don't think Ruby/Sapphire can be used as an example. Especially since there are people who would buy both copies (like me...). You wouldn't need to buy two copies of FFX.

Misty
09-17-2005, 12:34 AM
Even so, I'd say there's at most a 2-3 million overlap, meaning 9 million buyers of Ruby OR Sapphire.

I'm going to be lazy and just copy and paste what I wrote over at Toon Zone.

I saw the movie yesterday, and it was very obvious to me that it was created with Americans in mind, and it's not just because they already list the people responsible for the English version in the credits. A good 3/4 of the movie is nothing but fighting, and a lot of the movie seemed to be really really fanservice-y.

The cell phone ringtone was great. I hope Square-Enix realize how much money they'd make if they offered the ringtone for sale on their website. I'd sure as hell download it.

I liked how the movie tackled certain video game to real life transitions, such as showing just HOW Materia is used and how random monster encounters work.

And just like in the video games, the Turks are the most interesting characters.

The movie requires you to completely forget anything you've ever learned in Physics class. Once you understand that the film uses the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon laws of physics, you start to enjoy it so much more.

I was having flashbacks to One Piece when I saw the Bahamut. At least in this movie, nobody got shot right in the face and then walked away from it as if nothing happened.

When all is said and done, I thought it was a good movie, and I thought FF7 was terrible. I was a little skeptical going into the film, remembering the atrocity that was "The Spirits Within," but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by how awesome this movie was.

Great. Now will VI ever get the respect it deserves?

Probably never ;_; Everybody's too busy popping a boner over all this new FF7 stuff to even pay attention to any of the other ten games in the series.

I suspect if it was created with the Japanese in mind, it'd be Cloud being angsty, having flashbacks, and making longwinded speeches about what truly matters and how you have to walk a man's path in life and etc. Then add in a few weepy scenes commemorating Aeris and you're done. :p

Only if Fukuda of Gundam Seed Destiny infamy directed it.

I just saw it, and as I feared...it was a pile of crap. Hell, even the battle scenes were lame, maybe with the exception of Tifa's fight. (The trailers made them seem much more cool than they turned out to be.) Plot-wise, it had nothing. Music was bad... It's just another tech demo, as far as I'm concerned.

The only good thing about this movie, really, is that we were finally able to see the characters and some areas from the game in much more high-quality, realistic graphics -- instead of that polygon mess. Oh, and the motorcycle scene after the credits was pretty well done. (I found it much more cool than the movie itself.)

I'd rank this below FF: Spirits Within. Though I'm sure that many young boys and girls are excited as they're watching the video while I'm typing this...

Let it be known that I desperately want the soundtrack for this movie. Especially its rendition of One Winged Angel.

Kadabra, please define lame.

I won't attack you, I just wanted to know how you thought the battle scenes were 'lame.'

Kasumi

Probably because they were a mix of the Matrix and DBZ. :P

I enjoyed the movie though and as Misty, I SO want the soundtrack.

Well, I overall thought the movie was good. It gave FF7 fans what they wanted and that was the point.

My main complaint is that big end battle was too dark. It'd hard to see stuff happen. I suppose it was to save money, cause if you think about it, most of Matrix happened in the dark. The other minor complaint I have is the repeated usage of the scenes where Shinra drained Mako Energy, the meteor crashing down and Sephiroth standing in flames. It felt like it was filler the second time it was shown.

w. The brightness of my screen doesn't increase the light in the movie.

Well, I had a similar problem - the last scene was hard to see, but I turned up the brightness and I could make out details just fine, aside from a few seconds when they were in that really dark building.

^Don't look too dark for me, not sure why, but I can see it clearly.

Wee, I watched it and was a bit disappointed:
1. Yuffie has healing powers, I was assuming that everyone was hurt and she goes off healing them all. Or at least let Yuffie steal some materia for once
2. Was hoping for RedXIII/Nanaki to use howling moon
3. Was hoping for Cid to summon his pet dragon <--correct me if I'm wrong
4. I hate Cait Sith, but fhs, I want to see slots in action
5. Tseng and Elena appeared for such a short while, 2-5 seconds only~

But still other than that, I have no complaints. This was from a non-ff fan. The only thing good this movie did to me is that I can brag it to my friends who didn't watch it yet :/

BESTEST.SUB.EVAHR (http://www.livejournal.com/users/beeblebabe/338568.html) .PERIOD.

Ok, well if you have a sick or twisted sense of humour anyway, seriously, watch it. The dialogue is more memorable than any other translation or sub I've seen so far. Obviously it's done to humour rather than anything else, but for the internet, there's nothing more fitting.

Have you ever watched fights in an anime series???

Someoen compared it to Yuen Woo-Ping's chereograpy in the Matrix and Crouching Tiger..

I have one question for you, have you ever lived in Asia, or been there?

This is typical of most kung-fu films.... As you can tell by watching the original dragon ball series which started the kung-fu trend, well in terms of high flying and super fast action..but they raised the bar with dbz.. thus every fighting type series in japan is like this... it's all about perception... no matter how fast they're moving, for them everything happens in slow motion, like focus in max payne, or bullet-time from the matrix..

once again, the matrix had yuen woo-ping as chereographer for a reason, not to mention the brothers who made it are huge anime fanatics and they wanted their fights to look manga/anime style, and in fact one of their vfx guys had aimed for giving a manga type shadowing on the highway chase scence in reloaded....

so when someone compares the fighting to the matrix, i get frustrated, as the brothers were aiming for the scenes to look like something out of manga/anime as they were also trying to appeal to the demographic audience in japan, where the film gets wayyyyyyy better reviews than by people over here who've never even heard of integral theory... also the same people that did advent children did "The Final Flight of Osiris" for the animatrix...

blah blah so i can't post something coherently, sue me, im too tired..
