Please fix any vandalism remaining from round two of Ph34r's attacks. Beware of users posing as administrators - their usernames are spelt and look just like the genuine article.

Registration has been disabled temporarily.

The vandalism has been reverted by Ferret, nYoo and Ketsuban among others, so there should be not much left. I'll be obliterating the edits in about 9 hour's time, so preserve whatever you wish before then.

He used proxies again I take it?

Can we just block the proxies one by one?

That's about all we can do really.

Took the words out of my mouth, Ev and spoken oh so eloquently. Yeah this guy needs to be dealt with permanently.

I notice he's too vain to not take a name that doesn't contain ph34r except for impersonation purposes.

But we can't use that as a detection mechanism - he'll realise what's happening quickly.

What I do know is that the proxy detector works, in a fashion - nYoo can attest to it. So he's probably using a more secure open proxy (is there such a thing?) that isn't as easy to detect.

24.123.210.70 is the address in question this time. If someone could report that to all the major proxy blocklists, that would be appreciated.

The Pokémon pages and their associated talk pages have been protected against moves (renames). They are still editable.

It would appear that we are being specifically targeted. While this vandal has hit both Wiktionary and the Mozilla Community Wiki's, those hits appear to have been practice runs.

If it makes anyone feel any better, we're actually doing a better and quicker job at cleanup than they did. ^^;;

Hmm. This time I'm sure he was using a bot. Pages were being vandalised in alphabetical order. Or maybe not. Acid Armor was moved to Acid Armor (mov is ph34rde).

I have also protected the move pages against renames now.

However, it seems that some of them have become endless redirect loops with the actual content lost. Please attempt to locate this content and restore it - or leave a note in this thread so that I can search for it manually. Note to sysops: the redirect loop should be removed first, before trying to restore deleted history.

How did he even get in? I thought registration was stricter now.

Archaic

There's no real way to make it more strict than it ever was, to my knowledge anyway. Not without moving to a "sysop must create an account forup personally" system. We simply shut down registrations for a time, and opened them again.

I've shut down registrations again as a precaution. Ph34r seems to have decided to create a bunch of junk users from the looks of things. Prep for an all-out attack one would assume. We'll open registrations again once they're all gone.

Ph34r, if you're reading this, a message for you.

We will not Ph34r. Ph34r is not the 'pedia killer. Ph34r will again and again suffer a little death that brings to his efforts total obliteration. We will face Ph34r. We may permit it for a time to pass over us and through us. But when it has gone past, we will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the Ph34r has gone, there will once again be what was, and Ph34r will be no more. Only we and the 'pedia will remain.

It's vandals like you who made us decide to disallow anonymous users in the first place. If you really were attempting to make us do what you say, you would've opened a dialogue with us, not begun this series of attacks. We may not be Wiktionary or the Mozilla Community Wiki, but just as they blocked you when you attacked them, so we too can block you, over and over again, as many times as need be. And when we do trace you, prepare to suffer the consequences of your actions. Our server is hosted by a commercial company. You are causing harm to their network with your attacks. They won't take us down for that, but they will take you down. Under US law, which our server falls under, your acts actually constitute an act of terrorism. Perhaps that term is overkill, but that's what the law says, and frankly, with how petty your actions have been up to this point, I certainly would relish the opportunity to be petty in return and take out all my frustration over spammers and griefers that's been building since I first became a mod in 2001 out on you.

Consider yourself warned.

Tell me, do you know the meaning of the word "compromise"? Go do something else with your time.

Archaic
05-24-2005, 02:48 AM
Compromise? What compromise? It has, and never will be, our position to negociate with spammers and griefers such as yourself. You've clearly demonstrated why Bulbapedia cannot be opened up to anonymous users by your own actions, if you are who you claim to be. Immature people such as yourself pose a risk to the Wiki that cannot be ignored with our limited number of sysops.

I've yet to hear from you any justification for what you've done either.

(Hey, isn't it kind of an honor to be attacked? I guess the Bulbapedia has gotten so big and good that others are either jealous of it or just...I don't know...like to make messes of wikis?)

Arion, why attack a Pokemon wiki? We are of a peaceful race. What has anyone ever done to you for you to feel like you can come in here and make a mess of everything? Why even bother doing any of it, since everything can simply be restored and you can get yourself added into....Oh, that's it! Do you want attention or something?

You do realize, though, that if you are caught, you will just be facing the law. Why even bother doing any of this when you are just cutting your own throat? Does it make you feel good that you attacked a Pokeman site?

You speak as if you are entitled to have some control over the inner workings of the pedia. Anyway, what is it you want so badly that you would attack the site like this? I have been wondering that this entire time.

05-26-2005, 11:18 PM
Somehow Argy, I doubt you're going to get an answer there. Unless of course they come back. We think the attacker has had his fun and left now. Emphasis on "we think". Still, we're grabbing server logs at any sign of a slowdown of any sort, so we should at least be able to filter out the offending packets.

I wouldn't put anything past this guy. Still, good luck with blocking him, and I mean that in the most sincere way possible.
