MediaWiki 1.5alpha has been released. It is full of fascinating new features, and I'd love to start using them, however, being an alpha release, I'm not ready to put our sites on it yet.
I will be setting up a test site instead. In the meantime, read the release notes (http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=324854) and start devising test cases and other experiments for the new features.

MediaWiki 1.5alpha has been set up on the test site.
There may be some features which have not been enabled, please feel free to submit your requests to me in this thread.
Also, unlike the main wiki sites, the test wiki allows anonymous editing and image uploading. (However, the test wiki is also already linked to Bulbagarden Archives.)
The fact that they're taking away the Special:Maintenence page irks me, as I actually use that to make a lot of corrections from time to time...

Looks pretty cool although I'm not sure I like all of the changes, especially the Maintenance page removal.
edit:
Upload file
From Bulbagarden Wikitest
The upload directory (/home/themozz/public_html/wikitest/w/upload) is not writable by the webserver.
I wanted to check out the different filename feature :(

The maintenance page had to go because of the database structural changes.
Uploading has been fixed.

Apparently the only function actually removed is the misspellings page, the others were already linking to other pages and still exist (http://wikitest.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Special:BrokenRedirects)

Actually, I had decided to lock down the site, since I hadn't the time to look after it and it wasn't being played with...
But, there's a new version of MediaWiki 1.5 out, so I might upgrade it and release it the site later.

Wikipedia has upgraded (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Version) - we will follow, after they resolve whatever issues they've discovered.

*Wonders exactly how he's supposed to promote people with the new version*
EDIT (Argy): Nevermind. We got it figured out. For future reference, it's Special:Makesysop.

It's the same as before... and the test site was taken down due to security issues again. (I really could do with shell access again, but they're trying to figure out what's wrong on the server so they are restricting access...)

MediaWiki 1.5beta4 now. And a milestone: I've managed to copy and safely convert the Bulbapedia database to the new format.
So... A fork of Bulbapedia (http://wikitest.bulbagarden.net) to play with.

More little hiccups... The sysop/bureaucrat list did not carry over in the upgrade, so if you need those back, contact Argy, Archaic, evkl or me [for Bulbanews].
