I'm in utter disbelief at this - yet it's pretty hilarious. I wonder how they're gonna try and subpoena God to appear in court..

I think it should be mentioned that this guy brought the lawsuit to try and show how frivolous some lawsuits have been, not because he really thought he could sue God.

Lol. This is like Miracle on 34th street... Armageddon. xD

That's crazy, yet hilarious. I do agree that this is just to make a point, but still, what the heck.

True, but at that - it's still kind of a ridiculous extreme. I totally get the point and agree (people are too quick to sue in this day and age), but how do you really take that seriously? I'm just left laughing at him, not thinking "wow, he's right!"

"God could not be reached for comment."

Well, the Simpsons had something similar where Lisa called on God to testify so obviously God works in the court setting...

Heh... What's next, suing Shakespeare for copyright infringment?

EDIT: You guys have to read the talk pages too, they're just way too hilarious:

Give me a break. We are having a little bit of fun with this nonsense. IRC might have been a bit much, but with the fact that Chambers admits his lawsuit is as frivolous, I see no problem with "God could not be reached for comment." I readded that, and I say its funny as this is Wackynews anyways. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 14:59, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
The thing is, what methods did you attempt to reach God via. As obvious a statement as that is, you need to provide notes on the talk page, detailing your methodology of trying to reach him. (Most people aren't IRC users, anyway, so that's not really a proper way to exhaust measures. Send a email to the Vatican, however pointless that is (as they never reply in my experience), and you then can honestly say this.) -- Zanimum 16:38, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
Maybe he prayed...? --Nzgabriel | Talk 19:46, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
The direct line to God? Wouldn't Wikinews require statement on the talk that he did indeed try that method? Hate to be nit-picky, especially considering I'm often one of the worst offenders of not putting reporting notes in, but if it's featured like this... -- Zanimum 20:14, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Lets get things sorted here, I added the IRC comment back - our more technical readers will be falling about laughing at this and all go on Freenode to verify there is a user "God". Well, there is - I tried to /msg Him, I tried joining a channel he was in and asking him for comment - no reply. And, to my great regret, the Chatzilla client doesn't support a "/pray" command. --Brian McNeil / talk 20:06, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

First, the Chinese regulates reincarnation. Now, somebody in the U.S. sues God.

Welcome to madness.

The suit is in an apparent retaliation for a recent ruling where the words 'rape' and 'victim' were banned from a recent criminal case involving a sexual assault incident. The woman who was assaulted, Tory Bowen, filed a lawsuit against Jeffrey Cheuvront, a district judge in the city of Lancaster when he banned the use of those words in her criminal case. Chambers says that her lawsuit is "frivolous" and he filed his suit to show people that "anybody can sue anybody."

Oh what. I remember hearing about this case. Banning a rape victim from testifying with the words "I was raped" is the height of ridiculousness.

A complication arise from the fact that a witness generally considered a reliable and reasonable man, one mr. Nietzsche, has testified in the past that the defendant was deceased.

That's not right, the senator of Nebraska is suing a person who can't even testify ? What does he [Nebraksa senator] have against God anyway ?

Nothing, he just wants some laws to be revised so lawsuits in the future won't be as ridiculous.

Indeed, now let the defendant now prove his existence.

Not to start a religious debate or anything, but IF God were to exist, he's meant to be able to do anything, and that does include testifying however it may be.
Of course he's also got the power to ignore it, as un-moralistic that would be, but I mean, it's just a senator.

Now if it were Chuck Norris who was suing God, THEN we'd have a hearing and everything.

If I read right, he's just trying to prove a point. o_o;; And not being serious about it at all.

And with a god getting a defendant? Oh jeez. There are few things that irritate me more than when people pretend, or even believe, that they know what a god would say or react to something.

I wish people would stop taking this all seriously.

this senator is officially retarded. mainly because how can you sue someone when their existence is not confirmed or unconfirmed.

Wow, David Kelly is some predictor isn't he? Somebody sued God just this past season on his thought provoking show, Boston Legal.(I wouldn't be surprised if thats where this guy got the idea)

Here's my question, if he wins, whose gonna pay out?

Actually, Touched By an Angel has done it before ... and doesn't it come up in Oh, God! ? God's been sued plenty of times...

Maybe you should actually read the article, and then judge whether or not the senator is retarded.

Good luck with that, how can you sue something which might not exist (even though I think God exists)?

After reading the article, it appears like it could be some sort of joke?
