View Full Version : The Hall of Shame makes some members look like elitists.

Without a clue where to truly put this since there is no Feedback board...

Seriously it does.

Some of the threads in there make no sense. A couple being a few silly questions asked by curious users who don't know what they are doing. I mean admins or mods CAN lock or delete threads right? So why move something so pointless and..."non-shameless" into what's supposed to be a storage area for the "Oh so terrible!"? I mean a simple misplaced question like "What do I do?" going in there? And some of the other threads in there are equal to what's usually seen in the Shipping Forums and crackpot fanfictions.

Another thing to note, don't allow cheats or hacks? Then say, "We don't allow that here." and just lock or delete the thread, or edit the person's post removing the codes. Otherwise a separate board can be made for cheaters and hackers alone, away from people who want to play fairly or don't want to screw their game up.

Also some of the replies towards those threads (before they are moved) are very rude. I understand some are trying to trying to correct the wrong-doing but some are going to the point of what a 4ch troll or cyber-bully will say. You basically are bringing yourself down as the person who made the so-called bad thread.

...

And yet I see a mass of users coming here to blatantly flame anyway with a slight foreshadowing of being ironically put in the Hall of Shame as well, with another chance of getting warned, suspended, or IP banned...

Kind of sad.

Well, if I'm an elitist for knowing how to push a link on Serebii.net then I'm soryy. :p

What's ironic about this thread is that it'll probably end up in the Hall of Shame. :-/

This thread belongs in the Hall of Shame. I knew it was gonna end up there as soon as I saw the dumb title.

He's missing the point that the HoS is fun for the whole family.

Before I move this to where we all know it's destined to go:

Some of the threads in there make no sense. A couple being a few silly questions asked by curious users who don't know what they are doing. I mean admins or mods CAN lock or delete threads right? So why move something so pointless and..."non-shameless" into what's supposed to be a storage area for the "Oh so terrible!"?

People who make simple mistakes, like placing a thread in the wrong forum, or posting a slightly stupid question are largely either ignored or have their thread locked/deleted. BUT, the Hall of Shame is for those posts SO above the normal level of stupidity/shamelessness/wrongness/pointlessness that they deserve to be forever honored (and, are often "honored" by people of the same intellectual level, which is a little touch of irony to make it more humorous for everyone else).

Now, just because YOU think something isn't Hall of Shame worthy doesn't mean the mods and admins don't think it is. It's part of the "differing tastes" of people. But things like asking how to use a, for lack of a better word, "competitor's" website, or advertising all of your hacked/cloned Pokemon for trade (never mind the fact that there's a dedicated trade thread), or how playing drunk isn't a good idea (all recent HoS topics)...are truly things to be saved. And cherished. And ridiculed.

And now, I move this thread to the Hall of Shame. Why? Not because the poster was necessarily stupid. Not because this is the wrong forum (the Garden Grotto's the right one). No, I move it there because of the subject matter itself. Though, as always, it can be saved by an admin...if they have the willpower/want to do so.

Granted, different people have different taste when it comes to Hall of Shaming. But I think that most threads in here can be defended--and really, yes, this is an invitation for people to laugh at anyone when somebody says something really stupid. It just so happens that most of our regulars don't typically say something so egregiously asinine as to warrant their posts going here, but really, if Archaic made a post asking about how to get the PotW on SPP, I'd HoS it in a second.

Is it mean fun? Perhaps it is. But then and again, while generally we're a business, we have some vestiges from the old Bulbagarden--the one which really was a frat party with people who would shudder at the sight of girls or beer. Now we're just having fun. I like this. The other alternative is to close it to the public and have the mods mock you incessantly from behind closed doors. I like the transparency of this process better.

Wait, I thought people already knew we're a bunch of arrogant elitists. :P

I'd just like to say something regarding the issue of deleting or Hall of Shaming a thread. If the poster has made a personal attack on someone from the forums, I think it should be deleted. The reason I say this is because a little after I joined there was a poster who not only made comments about the Pokémon loving community in general he also made a personal attack on me. I didn't know who this person was, why they chose chose me, or why they said the things they did, but they were negative comments, and frankly they scared me. That thread was Hall of Shamed and is still open for posting. I am not asking someone to delete that thread now, but I would like future posts that include that kind of material to be deleted as soon as possible.

People can always ask the moderators or admins to delete the thread. They shouldn't have to ask everyone if the thread offended/scared them. If the attack was severly bad, then maybe they could delete it on their own, but otherwise, you only need to request for it to be deleted. It's not that much of a hassle to have to PM a mod/admin.

I know, I get what your saying, I could've just asked and I probably should've, but maybe what I mean is that someone who can, could have just deleted it before I read it, and that maybe they could do that in the future if they recognize a personal attack on someone else. Because no one needs to read those kinds of things about themselves.

vee2x_paradox I look down upon you. As paradox and contradiction are not interchangable words at all. They have different meanings.

Heh good one. Actually he does, it's called the "Banned" forum though it's for mods only. This forum actually used to be mods only back in the day.

everyone who is new is going to get flamed one way or another.
it's the people who brush it off & keep posting that become the elitists.
if you've got a bleeding heart for new people, or 'noobs', being bashed, then...

maybe the internet's just not for you, amigo.

You don't get flamed for being new, that would just be stupid. You get flamed for making yourself look like an idiot, making pointless posts, or otherwise deserving it.

Yes, it's not our fault if the people who are new act like idiots and then use this as an excuse "but I'm new". But really, when they post the most outrageous topic in the wrong forum, you've gotta be wondering if they just came to spam.

Yes. And look at me? I'm new and I'm not flamed for being idiotic.

Well that's mainly because I have forum experience. But I'm still new, and I'm not idiotic or noobish at all.

People get flamed because they're retards, not because they're new.
