Think right back to your first Pokemon game. what starter did you pick? did you have any bad training habbits? did you spend most of your time looking for that elusive pokemon you loved to bits?

what memories do you have locked up in your mind?

For me, i started off with a charmander on red, which started off my love of fire pokemon. The first pokemon I caught in the wild was a Pidgey. my bad training habbit was lvling my charmander and forgetting about the others and the first time round, I missed catching Moltres on victory road and foolishly saved the game after it. luckily my friend had a spare lvl 100 one, so I was covered.

the first pokemon I got to lvl 100 without cheats was a nidoking, followed years later by my blaziken on Coloseum

I caught a missingno, but released it after realising that it was absolutley rubbish.

so how about you? any memories you want to share?

My first game was Pokémon Gold. It was about five months before Ruby and Sapphire were released over here but it was a long time since I had been into Pokémon so most of the Generation II stuff was new to me. I did not know which starter was best but remembering that Squirtle was supposedly a good choice in the first games led me to start with Totodile.

I did alright until Azalea Town where I had a few losses. I eventually consulted a strategy guide which suggested using Flaaffy. Right, what's a Flaaffy? The evolved form of Mareep... which is? :-p This led to Ampharos becoming my favourite Pokémon for a long time.

Anyone else remember their reaction when they first finally beat the Elite Four and learnt that they had another, tougher battle? I eventually beat Lance on the second attempt despite relying on just Ampharos and Feraligatr. And Ampharos's moveset would make a move-rater cringe: Thundershock, Thunderbolt and Thunder! I replaced Thundershock with Rain Dance when I knew better so it's a little better now.

I did train other Pokémon, though. I know Sudowoodo got some love when I caught it and my Crobat was in the level 60s by the time I was finished with the game.

I remember Sudowoodo. because it looked like a tree, I naturally assumed it was a grass type. probably because I was twelve then and I was baking in the hot florida sun (I got it when i went to the USA for my holiday, I returned being the first in my class to own the game). but it's an honest mistake to make. I sent out Typhlosion, who got his butt kicked. and i missed the capture, but, thats life.

The first time I played the game, it wasn't even my own. A friend was having some trouble so she let me borrow her Blue version and try to get farther. I think the next summer I bought a Game Boy Pocket and Red... That was back in 1998/1999, so I can't really remember it well.

I remember my friend had a Squirtle->Blastoise, but I played the game so many times I don't remember what my first starter was.

My first was Pokemon Yellow. This is a rough moveset for Pikachu, from what I could remember:

Thundershock
Thunderbolt
Thunder (or was it Quick Attack?)
Thunderwave

And I actually thought it was good.

I did the exact same thing. Only I expanded to have Charizard with all fire moves, blastoise with all water, ect. Man I sucked back then.

My first game was Gold. My first pokemon was totidile, (so adorable) and pretty much spent most of my time training just him, until I realized I should train and capture other basic pokemon, during the first stages of the game.(I wasn't very bright at playing Pokemon, at first.)

I started with Yellow. 2002, I'd received a GBA for Christmas... I wanted Silver, but all EB had was Yellow. So I bought it. I stayed up ALL NIGHT playing that thing.

My first Pokémon game was a Pokémon Blue Rom, I remember how happy I was when my friend told me she had the games playable on her PC. Ah my first step into the wonderful world of pirated games.

Anyway this is back in December 1999, I think I might of started off with Charmander, I'm not sure, but I got so very excited when I caught my first Pokémon, a Pidgey :3 And yeah, my bad habit was leveling up only three or so of my team while others got ignored, I try and keep my teams roughly at the same level now XD

My first game was Yellow and I played like a moron. By the time I got Blue, I was somewhat respectable.

Favorite moment ever was capturing Lugia. Of course.

My first was Pokémon: Blue Version. 1998 I believe.

I walked out of Professor Oak's Laboratory with Bulbasaur.

Whom is now a Venusaur ^^. The cartridge is still sitting in my desk drawer, not three inches from my keyboard.

My first was Pokemon Red on Christmas when I got my GB Color.

My fondest memory is discovering the "Missingno" glitch for the first time, and thinking how mysterious and mystical it was, when now I know it's only a programming error.XD

My first game was Blue and the starter I chose was Bulbasaur. I just remember over training Bulbasaur and hardly training all my others. One of the things I remember is on christmas morning my friend called me because he had just gotten the game and asked me how to get pokeballs since he knew I already had the game. The first episode of the anime I ever saw was the Squirtle Squad episode because I was at Long Beach Island and I woke up came sown stairs and my brother was watching the show.

The missingno glitch was also a cheat. the thing you needed to do was get into a fight with Missingno, then either beat him or leg it, and the fith item in your bag is maxed out. it is great when you have a spare rare candy :)

My first game was red version. I can remember the day I had it and I was
eager to get home to play it! I belive I picked a Squirtle, because I thought
it was cute :(

My bad training habits was that I never caught any pokemon till I needed
them to learn fly, surf, etc.

Also, it was the 6th spot ;)

My first pokemon game was Pokemon Stadium for the super NES, and I always picked Articuno because it could take down a pokemon with on icebeam.

My first game was Blue. I got it with Birthday money. I picked Squirtle and over trained him. Every other pokemon on my team sucked. Needless to say I restarted as soon as I realised.

Though it's really weird, my friend over trained Totodile in Gold and she got through the Pkmn League no problem. Then again, trainer levels in GSC sucked, bar Red and Blue to an extent.

I got a Crystal version for my birthday a looong time ago. Ever since I got it my favorite Pokemon has been Suicune. I started with Cyndaquil and I caught a Sentret as soon as I got out in the grass. Of course, I only trained Cinders(the Cyndaquil) and now he is a level 92 Typhlosion and all my other Pokemon are under level 50. xD But I managed to beat the Elite Four with only Cinders. Also, I killed the red Gyrados with him. x_X My first legendary was either Lugia or Entei...I forgot. I didn't manage to catch Suicune. But then when I got Fire Red I started with Charmander so I can find Suicune. I also have Suicune in Colosseum. I've seen Suicune in Fire Red, and I will soon be importing my Master Ball from Emerald to Fire Red so I can catch her there. ^^

Rukaria did you get that from Emerald Cloning cheat,Lottery(which sucks) or is that the '1' you always get?

My first game was Fire Red(yes its true) I picked Squirtle and trained that and pretty much just that even though I caught a whole bunch. I even have a Lv17 or something like that Arcanine *sobs miserably*.As soon as I could I used the Birds with my Lv70-90 Squirtox(my Blastoise,no idea why i called it that maybe like some us do-nickname it for its first form forgetting its evo)and my Scyther that took hours to finally catch in Safari Zone to Waste the Elite4
i now have Lv100 Blastoise,still Lv17ish Arcanine,Lv100 Zapdos,Lv51 Articuno,Lv57 Moltres,Lv100 Mewtwo(or I did till my friend took it *cries*)
Lv70 Mewtwo(i took off some other game) and Lv43 Scyther
These are all now on Emerald so it didnt take so/as long as it normally does

When the Pokémon craze was at its peak, I lived on a cul-de-sac (or whatever it's called) populated by families that had boys my age (in the 6-8 range).

...

So, yes, I was pretty well-versed on everything about Pokémon before fianlly getting my first game. The first game of mine was Yellow, along with a Game Boy Color, Wario Land II, and A Bug's Life (ugh). From there, I became obsessed with the card game and anime too. And I thought simply buying the majority of the theme decks was getting the majority of the cards. Foolish child. In any case, with so many kids around me, I really got into the whole trading/battling aspect, which is good since that's suppsoed to be Pokémon's primary purpose. Unfortunately, I don't exactly live on a street filled with kids eager to play anymore. Unless, of course, the old married couples pick it up for some reason. *sighs*

Hmm, I remember getting all the BG games from the first gen (and maybe even the second gen) but not getting any of the N64 games since I didn't have a N64 at the time. I ended up getting my hands on Stadium 1 and 2 eventually, though.

And I too loved Missingno. My Red is probably still screwed up from it. Does anyone know if Missingno.'s side effects go away if you delete your file?

Oy, I remember a few things...

First, I remember that I was utterly pissed that even though my Pokémon were gaining levels, their attacks just seemed to be getting weaker. Why were my L5 Pokémon doing less damage than when they were L3? So then I encountered (or was training?) a Rattata and kept telling it to, and asking why it wouldn't just, die.

Then I remember those dang Chansey and Kangaskhan in the fricking Safari Zone. I would actually stay up late trying to catch them and get so angry at their running away that I would shake. O_o

I seem to remember that the first time I beat the Elite 4, I did so with a lucky hit from my last Pokémon, a Moltres at very low health. When I won, I actually jumped up and stomped with glee, hurting the heel of one of my feet.

Blue was my first game and I started with Bulbasaur. Articuno was (and still is) my favorite pokemon so I used my masterball on it, thinking that the legendary birds could only be caught with masterballs. Because of this I foolishly battled Moltres and Zapdos, let them faint and was unable to use them until a friend traded them to me.

As for bad habits, my worst was teaching fly to every single bird pokemon I caught when better moves could have taken the HM's place. Also, I would evolve pokemon with stones as soon as I caught them. That was pretty dumb.

My first was RED version. Starter was a Charmander, and I made him the strongest one in the party.... I evened out the levels of them somehow, but Charizard was definately my powerhouse.

The first legendary I caught was Zapdos, and he has been my favorite Bird since.

My Charizard's moveset consisted of Slash, Strength, Flamethrower and Fire Spin, I think it was? Zapdos had Thunderbolt, Drill Peck, Fly and Thunder.

I learned about the great "MISSINGNO." trick online, and I've used it since for those games. Gotta love over 100+ Master Balls, Rare Candy!

Silver was the next game I got. My most favorite one out of all the series'.
I bought FireRed way later, and I found it just as entertaining... Though, slightly harder because of new moves and new types.
Sapphire came next, where I gave Hoenn a chance. Not a bad place, just that it's a pain to raise a Pokemon to level 100 because of the weaker Pokemon there... and the stronger place being out in the middle of the ocean (and I don't have a Surfer on me... -_- ).
Grabbed Colosseum after that.
Got Pokemon XD way later.
Finally got Emerald recently.
Bought Pokemon Ranger, still having fun with that, and awaiting the Manaphy Code.
Going to get Diamond later, and possibly Pokemon Battle Revolution when it comes out here in the US.

Concerning nostalgia, I remember saving on the other side of the ledge in the Whirl Island Caves with no way to escape, which resulted in the forced restarting of my game.

I was't very smart back then.
